Sudan’s decision in principle to give Russia a naval base.

Sudan Navy Ships

According to media reports, the Russian Foreign Minister said that we have discussed this issue. He said that during the talks, it was made clear that Russia has started the process of ratification. Will explain the revision schedule

Lavrov said this would be done through the new Duma membership. On the other hand, the Sudanese minister revealed that Sudan is also preparing for the ratification process. He said the agreement would be implemented in accordance with the procedures in the Sudanese parliament.

No announcement was ever made by the Sudanese government, but Russia said it had signed a 25-year agreement with Sudan in December last year to build and operate the base.

It should be noted that on July 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced an agreement with Sudan on the establishment of a Russian naval base. The agreement was announced to the public in early December 2020. Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir discussed the establishment of a naval base in Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast in 2017.
