Speaking at the ceremony at GHQ, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that our army fought very bravely in East Pakistan.
The Pakistan Army will never neglect to fight terrorism. The tragedy of former East Pakistan was not a military but a political failure.
He said that the number of fighting soldiers was not 92 thousand but only 34 thousand. 34 thousand people were against two and a half lakh Indian army and two lakh Trend Mukti Bahini.
The Army Chief said that in 1971, the Pakistan Army fought bravely and made unprecedented sacrifices. The Army Chief of the Indian Army also acknowledged the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army.
We have to learn from the mistakes of the past, we need to learn from the mistakes and move forward, we have to end the culture of intolerance in the society.
The Army Chief said that in the end I would like to say a few things regarding the political situation. On the contrary, our army, which is engaged in the service of the nation day and night, is criticized from time to time. According to me, the main reason for this is the interference of the army in politics in various forms for 70 years. It is unconstitutional, so in February last year, the army decided after a lot of deliberation that the army will not interfere in any political issue in the future.
They are determined not to interfere in politics. The leadership can do anything, but they cannot go against the country. Those who think that they will create rifts in the people and the army are mistaken.
He said that I can assure you that we are strictly committed to this and will continue to do so in the future, however, instead of welcoming this constitutional process, many circles have severely criticized the army and used very inappropriate and rude language. Criticism of the army is the right of the people and political parties, but one should be careful in the choice and use of words.
Should everyone keep in mind that there is a limit to this patience. I want to forgive this inappropriate and aggressive behavior against me and the army and move forward because Pakistan is better than all of us. Individuals and parties keep coming and going. But Pakistan will always exist inshallah.
Talking about the general elections of 2018, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that in the general elections of 2018, some parties gave the title of selected to the winning party on the pretext of RTS sitting and lost the vote of confidence in 2022. After one party labeled the other party as imported, we have to reject this attitude. Losing and winning is part of politics. Instead of an elected government, democracy is the name of courage and respect for the public opinion of the people. If Pakistan wants to move forward, then we have to give up the attitude of intolerance and I do not believe. For us, Pakistan is God’s blessing. Martyrs have made enormous sacrifices for its freedom and stability. We are proud of them.
The safety and integrity of the motherland is and will remain our first duty, for which we will not hesitate to make any sacrifice.
