Super 12 stage of the T20, Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 6 wickets and maintained their hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

In the match played in Brisbane, Sri Lanka achieved the target of 145 runs given by Afghanistan with the loss of four wickets 9 balls before.

On behalf of Sri Lanka, Dhananjaya De Silva scored an unbeaten 66 runs, besides the wicketkeeper batsman was outstanding with 25 runs.

The Afghan captain used 7 bowlers to control the Sri Lankans but this tactic did not prove to be successful as Mujeebur Rahman and Rashid Khan dismissed two players each.

Sri Lankan bowler Vinandhu de Silva, who cracked the Afghan batting, was named the man of the match.
Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 144 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

No batsman could score a half-century from Afghanistan. Opener Rahimullah Gurbaz and Usman Ghani scored 28 and 27 runs.

Sri Lanka’s most successful bowler was Vinandhu De Silva who conceded just 13 runs in his quota of 4 overs, dismissing three bowlers, Lahru Kumara took two wickets while Dhananjaya De Silva and Kison took one wicket each.

With this match, Sri Lanka has moved to the third position in Group One with four points and still has two group matches remaining, the top two teams in the group are New Zealand and Australia respectively.
