Imran Khan challenged the amendments to take away the right to vote from overseas Pakistanis.

In the petition filed by Imran Khan through Karamat Bhandari Advocate, the Federal Election Commission and NADRA have been made parties.

Supreme court Petition seeks that the declare the amendments to the Election Act unconstitutional and order the Election Commission and others to provide voting facilities to overseas Pakistanis.

Petition also said that the Election Commission should be directed to provide funds to NADRA.

It may be recalled that in May this year, the PDM coalition government had passed a bill in the National Assembly to amend the Election Act 2017.

Under the bill, amendments to the PTI government regarding electronic voting machines and giving voting rights to overseas Pakistanis were scrapped.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar has said that the right of overseas Pakistanis to vote has not been abolished. It was passed.

In a country where it took ten to fifteen years to learn how to use an ATM card, the use of EVMs can cause problems.

In this regard, the Election Commission has asked for step-by-step advancement for electronic voting.
