The name of a fortunate individual has been written on the covering of the Kaaba.

With the start of the new Islamic year in Saudi Arabia, the covering of the Kaaba was replaced. The Kaaba covering is adorned with Quranic verses woven with gold and silver threads. It uses 120 kilograms of gold and 100 kilograms of silver.

However, for several decades, the name of a fortunate individual has also been written on this covering, and that fortunate person is calligrapher Abdul Rahim Amin Bukhari, who was one of the first calligraphers to work on the door and covering of the Kaaba. He adorned the covering of the Kaaba and the door of the Kaaba with his calligraphy skills.

According to the official news agency SPA, Abdul Rahim, born in 1917 in Mecca, had a passion for calligraphy since childhood. Because of this passion, he joined the Kiswa (Kaaba covering) team at just 15 years old. He participated in making the covering of the Kaaba during the reign of King Abdulaziz Al Saud.

It was his hard work and dedication that led to his excellent performance, and he quickly excelled, becoming the technical head of artisans in his field. Abdul Rahim Amin Bukhari was born in Mecca in 1917 (1335 AH). He had a passion for calligraphy since childhood.

At the age of 15, Abdul Rahim Amin Bukhari joined the Kiswa team and, due to his excellent performance, became the technical head of artisans in his field. In 1962, he was appointed the chief supervisor of the factory in Umm al-Joud that prepares the Kaaba covering.

He is considered an expert in Thuluth script and beautifully showcased his art on the door of the Kaaba.

In 1943 (1363 AH), he did calligraphy in Thuluth script on the first door of the Kaaba, and he also adorned the second door, installed during the reign of King Khalid bin Abdulaziz in 1979, with his art.

To honor his art, King Faisal bin Abdulaziz ordered that the name of calligrapher Abdul Rahim Amin be written on the covering of the Kaaba during his reign, and this order has been followed precisely for the past 45 years.
