As soon as the incident was reported, the police and rescue team reached the spot, cordoned off the area and carried out rescue operations.
According to SSP Operations it was a suicide attack. The suicide bomber opened fire on police and entered the mosque, after which he reached the pulpit where he blew himself up.

According to the spokesperson of Lady Reading Hospital, more than 30 worshipers were martyred in the blast while 50 injured have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital out of which 10 are in critical condition. Declared Emergency has been in Lady Reading Hospital.
The number of injured is expected to rise. Additional medical personnel have been called to the LRH.
PM Imran Khan condemned the Peshawar blast and directed immediate medical aid to the injured and demanded a report on the incident.
Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani strongly condemned the blast at the Jama Masjid in Peshawar and said that any attempt to harm the peace of the country with such cowardly acts of sabotage would fail and terrorists would not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious aims. He prayed for speedy recovery of those injured in the blast and high degree of casualties.
