Lahore: Pakistan leading host announcer writer and poet Tariq Aziz has passed away

Leading Pakistani TV host Adib Shair and PTV’s first announcer Tariq Aziz has passed away. His son confirmed the news of his father’s death. Tariq Aziz had been ill for a few days and when his condition suddenly deteriorated, he was taken to a private hospital where he could not recover. His funeral prayers will be offered at his residence, Ali Block, Garden Town.
Tariq Aziz was born in Jalandhar in 1936 and his family migrated to Pakistan. He started his career with Radio Pakistan. He also became the first announcer to read a PTV newsletter in 1964. Tariq Aziz gained fame from Pakistan’s state television (PTV) quiz show Auction House, which first aired in 1974.
Later, the most popular show was renamed as Tariq Aziz Show and later Bazm Tariq Aziz.
He also acted in several films in the 60’s and 70’s. The first film, Humanity, was released in 1967.
Tariq Aziz was also awarded the Pride of Performance Award in 1992. Tariq Aziz was a member of the National Assembly from 1997 to 1999.
