TOKYO: More than 1,100 companies in the Corona virus country of Japan have gone bankrupt.

As many as 1,100 companies in Japan have gone bankrupt since February last year due to the global corona virus outbreak, according to a financial review company.

As of Wednesday morning, 1,100 companies had either completed or were preparing for bankruptcy due to the corona virus, according to the Teikoku Data Bank.

With 172 bars and restaurants on the list, the first construction companies are second with 92 and hotels and inns are third with 79.

Teikoku Data Bank, 264 companies have gone bankrupt in Tokyo, 108 in Osaka Prefecture and 64 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Unemployment has also risen sharply.

The research agency noted that there has been a significant increase in the number of bars and restaurants going bankrupt in urban areas under the central government’s state of emergency.

The bank says an emergency extension in Tokyo and its three neighboring prefectures would make it impossible to avoid long-term personal losses, which could lead to more companies going bankrupt.
