According to foreign media, the current annual salary of the U.S. President is $400,000 (approximately 125 million Pakistani Rupees). This salary was set by the U.S. Congress in 2001 and has not changed for 23 years.
Before 2001, the U.S. President’s annual salary was $200,000 for three decades.
In addition to the annual salary, the U.S. President receives additional benefits, including $50,000 for expenses, $19,000 for entertainment, and $100,000 for travel, with the travel allowance being tax-exempt.
Readers should also note that if the U.S. President leaves office without using these allowances, any remaining amount does not belong to them personally and must be returned to the national treasury.
After leaving office, the U.S. President remains on the federal payroll and, under the Former Presidents Act, receives a pension equivalent to a Cabinet Secretary’s salary, which is about $230,000 annually.
Salary of the President of Pakistan.
The President of Pakistan’s salary is determined by the President’s Salary, Allowances, and Privileges Act of 1975, which was amended in 2018.
According to this amendment, the President’s salary can be increased through a notification by the Cabinet in Schedule Four of the Act, and it is symbolically one rupee higher than the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s salary.
The current monthly salary of the President of Pakistan is 846,550 Pakistani Rupees (a little over 10 million annually).
Notably, the current President, Asif Ali Zardari, who became the President of Pakistan for the second time, announced that he would not take a salary upon assuming office.
Salary of the President of India.
The monthly salary of the President of India, including additional benefits, is 500,000 Indian Rupees, which, according to the current exchange rate, is equivalent to about 1.625 million Pakistani Rupees. This is the highest salary for any public position in India, including the Prime Minister.
