The previously useless banana plant stems will now be valuable because Agha Samiullah, a landlord from Tando Ghulam Ali in the Badin area, has extracted fiber from the banana stems and created a thread that can be used to make valuable products.
Regarding this, Agha Samiullah said, “We thought, instead of throwing away or burning the banana stems, why not use them? Raw fiber can be used to make charpoys (traditional woven beds), carpets, socks, and sweaters. But if we take it to the mill and mix it with cotton, we can produce even more items with cotton.”
Local people say that this initiative will help adopt environmentally friendly methods and also earn money from banana waste.
Local landlords believe that if the government assists farmers in extracting fiber from banana stems, it will not only stabilize the agricultural sector but also generate good revenue
