Corona situation in 15 major cities of Pakistan alarming, positive case rate reaches 4.5%

ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) has said that the positive rate of corona cases in 15 major cities is increasing rapidly, with the positive corona cases reaching 4.5%.

According to details, a review meeting on the situation of Corona was held at the National Command and Operations Center under the chairmanship of Federal Minister Asad Umar, in which the increase in the rate of Corona cases and implementation of SOPs were considered in detail.

The NCOC expressed concern over the increase in the rate of positive corona cases, the steps taken in the context of the recent guidelines of the Provincial Chief Secretaries and the Chief Secretaries briefed on the implementation of SOPs in sensitive cities.

The NCOC says that the positive rate of corona cases is increasing rapidly in major cities, the positive rate of corona cases in the country is 4.5%, the rate of positive cases is higher in 15 major cities of the country.

According to the National Command and Operations Center, Hyderabad tops the list of 15 major cities with a positive rate of 16.59 per cent, followed by Gilgit with 15.38 per cent and Multan with 15.97 per cent. The rate of positive cases in Abad was 7.48%, in Karachi 7.12%, in Lahore 5.37% and in Rawalpindi 4.63%.

During the meeting, the provincial officials apprised about the administrative measures related to SOPs while the Chief Secretaries gave a briefing on the use of masks and holding of outdoor weddings.

It was informed in the briefing that micro-smart lockdowns are being carried out at 4136 places across the country, strategy is being implemented to stop the spread of Corona, existing health guidelines will be in force till January 31, 2021 in 16 major cities.

According to the NCOC, 2811 oxygen beds have been provided to increase the efficiency of hospitals, 13,000 oxygen cylinders have been provided to the provinces and federal units.
